The Trail Marker is the newsletter and voice of the New York Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club.
The Adirondack Mountain Club, popularly known as “the ADK” was founded in 1922 as an organization for people interested in promoting conservation, recreation, and education in the Adirondack Mountain region of New York State. It has since grown substantially from 208 charter members to over 20,000 members enrolled at large and in one of many chapters situated throughout New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
ADK New York Chapter celebrates 100 years in 2023. Raymond H. Torrey was the first Chair of the New York Chapter. In the fall of 1922, he was asked by the Board of Governors of the Main Club to organize local walks for members in the Metropolitan area. In January 1923, he issued a small two-page outing schedule. Almost 100 years later we continue to enjoy that special camaraderie and friendship that is ours as New York Chapter members.
